Many people say it, but who actually does it? As sisters at DphiE we believe it and strive to help those around us.
In years past, we have accumulated countless hours of service for our community, NJIT, and ourselves. Last semester alone we surpassed 500 hours for service. From tables to walks, we are constantly thinking of new and exciting ways to serve.
Some examples of what we have done are:
Raised money to help a sister pay medical bills after battling and surviving Breast Cancer.
Participated in Toys 4 Tots in Newark
Sent teddy grams (Small teddy bears with messages written by NJIT students) to terminally ill children in hospitals
Walked for Breast Cancer Research
Walked for Leukemia Research
Raised money for Cystic Fibrosis Research
Raised money for ANAD (Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders)
Planned and executed a dinner that raised thousands of dollars toward Breast Cancer
Volunteered to run/participate in multiple campus events (i.e. NJIT Day, Mr. & Mrs. NJIT pageant)
Cleaned up & Planted new flower beds at Branch Brook Park, a local wonder of Newark.
Organized a basket of food and gifts for a sister who had complications during childbirth and spent a lot of time in a hospital.
And so much more!
In the semester to come, our goal shall be to accumulate 1,000 hours as a sisterhood and hope to qualify for the Presidential Service Award.
